1 Tip to Optimize Your Firefox Referral Ads and Earn More!
Yo there! If you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed, or through email, for more tips on better and effective blogging!
As you probably know, Google AdSense has a Firefox referral option which lets you earn up to $1 for every successful Firefox referral. But are you really taking advantage of that, or just slapping the code onto your pages? Do you realize the vast potential for these referrals to earn you money (If used properly)? No? Well I’ll tell you!
Displaying Banner/Text Links
Probably all you do to promote your Firefox referrals is that you would simply slap the banner code onto some pages, right? Like so:
Right?
The Importance of IE users

Take a look at the above pie chart. It shows the top 3 browsers used by visitors to my blog in the month of January 2008. Firefox led the pack with a total of 115273 hits, with Internet Explorer following with 9778 hits, and then unknown(huh?) browsers with 4448 hits. Now I know that Firefox takes up almost 90% of the above pie chart, but let’s not forget internet explorer, with 4448 hits (7.55%). Now, if I had put some form of firefox referral banner or something for these IE users, and had every Internet Explorer converted (in a perfect world), that would have netted me $4448! (I’m being too unreasonable! Heh). Let’s get back to reality. Even if only 1% of these users had converted, that would have brought me 44.48 dollars. Which is still a good amount. And let’s not forget that Internet Explorer is still the most popular web-browser out there. My stats for IE users are so low because most of my blog’s readers are tech and computer oriented people, who were sensible enough(no offence, IE users!) to revert to Firefox long back. But I cannot ignore the tiny portion of Internet Explorer users, can I?
There is no point in showing Firefox ads to Firefox users (duh!) (since you only get commission for referring non-Firefox users). So, how do you make it so only non Firefox (specifically IE) users get to see the ads, or optimize your Firefox referral ads?
Here’s one option you can use:
A banner at the top
Have you ever seen those little yellowish coloured banners at the top of some blogs? You can use the same concept here. While welcoming IE users to your blog, recommend the Firefox browser to them by stating that your blog looks and behaves best in the Firefox web browser (which may well be true!). Here’s what it looks like:

To do that, copy the following code and put it just after the <body> tag. If you have a WordPress blog, you’ll have to edit your header.php file:
<!–[if IE]>
<div style=”background-color:#FFFFCC; border-bottom: 1px solid #FC0; margin: 0 0 5px 0; padding: 4px 0; font-size: 14px;”>
<span style=”text-align:center;”><img src=”<a href=”/fflogo.gif”>/fflogo.gif</a>” alt=”Firefox” style=”vertical-align: text-bottom;” />
Welcome to [blog name here]! This blog is best viewed with<script type=”text/javascript”><!–
google_ad_client = “pub-xxx“;
google_ad_output = “textlink”;
google_ad_format = “ref_text”;
google_cpa_choice = “CAAQzcLH7QEaCBVcCwmT2PieKLGsuIEBMAA”;
//–>
</script>
<script type=”text/javascript” src=”<a href=”http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js”>http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js</a>”>
</script>. Enjoy the blog!
</span>
</div><![endif]–>
Don’t forget to change your AdSense publisher id. Also, don’t forget to download the Firefox icon.
(Thanks to Sizlopedia for this trick!).
The above will only show the Firefox ad to IE users. Try it your self by visiting this blog from any version of IE!
