4 Ways to Promote Your Blog On Facebook
Yo there! If you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed, or through email, for more tips on better and effective blogging!
Facebook is currently the rage in social networking, right now. Statistics show that Facebook has over 100 million active users and it is the most trafficked social media site in the world (comScore).
The huge amount of activity on Facebook is a minefield for anyone wishing to promote their blog. While you’re not likely to pull in all of the 100 million active users, you can still gather a few hundred targeted visits from it a day, provided that you use the service properly.
So, how do you get about using Facebook to promote your blog? Well, the first thing to keep in mind is that it’s a social network, and please use it like that. I mean, don’t spam, and be actively involved in the community. Second, it’s always helpful to have a well developed network of friends, who can further promote your stories among their social circles, thus bringing even more traffic.
That being said, let’s look into 4 ways you can use Facebook to promote your blog:
1. Your Profile
Your profile is probably the most visited area (related to you) on Facebook. Therefore, it is imperative you have a link to your blog there, like so:
So if you’ve not already added your website URL here, do it now (by editing your profile). This is also important for branding. A website added to your profile makes you seem more professional, and someone who means business.
2. Status Updates
Status updates are those little pieces of information that describe what you’re doing right now, much like Twitter or Plurk:
Since all your friends see updates to your status, status updates are great to tell your friends of new blog posts or happenings on your blog (Much like TwitterFeed for Twitter). So, people reading your status can then come to your blog. Don’t forget these people are interested in what you say, so these are targeted visits! So use your status to your advantage!
3. Facebook Pages
Facebook pages are great for building up your product and company brand (PuttingBlogsFirst Facebook page). People can become a fan of your page, and start and join in conversations. In all, if you get really big (Barack Obama, for example), the exposure your blog (and brand) will get is gigantic.
Also, you can insert applications right into the page, such as an RSS feed, which updates the page with the latest post from your blog. Create your Page now!
4. Applications
Facebook has a ton of applications related to blogging which you can add to your profile, to showcase your latest content.
One such application is Simply RSS, which lets you add feeds to your profile (up to 5, as of yet). Simple and easy. Just do a simple search for RSS Feed or Blogging, and you’ll get tons of applications.

If you are really serious about promoting your blog on Facebook, you could develop your own application for Facebook (and promote your blog through that). Beyond your existing friends (who should be reading your blog anyway, if they are your real friends
), not many people will see a tiny link buried within your personal profile.
Bonus points if the application is actually relevant to the contents of your blog. Combo points for the application actually useful.
great tips these. i’ve been thinking about setting up a facebook account, but really i don’t know how to leverage such an account in order to help my blog. that rss feed tip seems particularly interesting.
