Yo there! If you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed, or through email, for more tips on better and effective blogging!

It happens to all of us, often. You think you’ve covered just about everything on the planet about the topic, and are at a loss for more ideas. You desperately need them, but you’re not getting them, no matter how hard you try, no matter how much you free write.

Well, I’m about to give you three simple tips you may have never heard about before to generate new and simply jaw-dropping ideas for your blog posts. Watcha waiting for? Jump at it!

1. Pick Up a Newspaper/Magazine

About the simplest thing you can do to get new ideas. Grab the nearest newspaper or magazine!

Magazines and newspapers are often a treasure trove of information and a source of many ideas. You just need to connect the dots. It does not matter if the newspaper
or magazine does not cater to your blog’s niche. You can always adapt the same ideas for your blog!

Why is that cat behaving all strangely? Why are kids rolling against the slope of a grassy hill?

Read as many newspapers and magazines and as many parts of these magazines/newspapers as possible. The more the better! The fun section of newspapers which contains comics and the type, are particularly good sources of ideas.

After reading stories and articles in the newspaper, pick up a highlighter and highlight pieces of text you think are potential idea generators. After you’re done, read over each of these highlighted pieces of text, and try to connect them with your blog’s niche. How can you link up a piece on gardening with your blog on food? Oh yeah, that piece did mention how to differentiate the weeds from the good plants. That gives me an idea! What about I write on how to differentiate between the different types of cheese! :D. Get the idea, right? ;)

2. Shut the Computer and Head For the Park

Not only is this good for your ‘ideas bucket’, this is also good for your health. Atleast you get off the computer for a little while!

Really, get off the ‘puter and go for a stroll in the nearest park. Observe things. Why is that cat behaving all strangely? Why are kids rolling against the slope of a grassy hill? What’s that, what’s this?

The key is to observe. Look at things and ponder over why they are occuring like that. Could you squeeze an idea or two from that? Try to link it up with your blog. Does it connect? If yes, good. If not, don’t worry, go on trying.

Let’s take the example of the cat which was behaving strangely. That gives me an idea! I could write about the Top 10 mistakes in cooking habits and identify them by strangely coloured mixtures with strange odours coming out of them. This list is bound to hit the popular page!

3. Do Something Else

Here’s a bonus tip for y’all. Really, if you don’t have ideas coming to you, even after doing all the above twice and then thrice, it’s time you did something else. Dont’ force it.

If you’re not feeling idealicious(yumm), don’t go after it. Do something else. Go outside and play ball. Watch some TV. Help your mom around the house. Catch up on friends. Do anything, but
search for ideas.

Maybe, while you’re doing other stuff, that bulb above your head will light up with a random idea ;) It really happens. When you’re doing other stuff, ideas often pop up in your head. Ever wonder why you
get ideas in the shower? ;)

Try the above tips I told ya, and trust me, you’ll not be disappointed. :D

So, do you have any tips you would give to a sad, seemingly helpless and idea-less blogger to help him/her generate ideas? If so, please do tell us! :D

  1. Great points here. The worst thing you can do is force yourself to write when you don’t know what to write about. It’ll make the article crappy, and you will have wasted your time anyway. It’s good to get away and come back when you’re ready to write.
