PBF 3.0 Coming Up

That’s the reason I’ve not posted here for several days….

PuttingBlogsFirst is getting a fantabulous re-design!

Now I know I’ve changed the design of this thing once already in the last 4 or 5 months, but, hey, things have to change, don’t they? ;)

Anyways, what brought about this decision to get a redesign for the blog? The fact that it would make the blog no more unique than the hundreds out there already using the present theme. That’s no small damage to my identity.

Moreover, this theme is not giving me as much control as I would like over the design of my blog. And so the change of design.

The best part about the redesign is… I’m doing it all on my own! Yup, started from scratch, learnt from the very helpful tutorials over at WPDesigner.

So What’s It Got?

This new theme has got loads of different things than the present one. For one, I’ve opted for a static homepage. Also, I have used some clever wordpress techniques(particularly query_posts()) to pull out the most recent post from the list on the frontpage and to display it out of the usual posts list.  This way, the latest post gets more attention.

Also, this theme is a tad more simplistic than this one, with loads of white or negative space.  I’ve tried to maintain standards too, with the link colours being blue. And ofcourse, who can forget valid XHTML code. It’s highly important that your blog is made up of valid code. Why?

The new design is only about 50% done, with the single post and comments and sidebar left to work on. And then comes the greuling task of testing, testing, testing. Especially with Internet Explorer. God save me!

Note: I’ll not be posting for the next several days too. If you’ve got any guest post you wanna post here, send it to me at: email. Cheers!

UPDATE: You know what? I’ve set up a dummy test blog with the new theme on. If you want to check out the new theme, feel free to do so. Note that it is still not complete, and some sections look horrendous.
