Starting Out As A Blogger
Yo there! If you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed, or through email, for more tips on better and effective blogging!
Ok all righty now. You’ve been reading scores of blogs for several months now and are finally convinced you should open up your own blog. Good for you!
But before you begin your journey in the fun but sometimes tough world of blogging, you need to know your stuff; in other words, you need to do some homework before stepping on the bandwagon. Don’t commit the mistake of not knowing what you’re dealing with, like so many new bloggers have done.
It’s more like planning. As they say, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
So, where do you start? Here. Here’s a little guide to blogging I have specially written for people who are new to blogging and don’t know where to begin. So, let’s start.
Step 1: Do You Even KNOW What a Blog Is?
Obviously, if you’ve been reading blogs for quite some time, you should have some idea of what a blog really is. If you don’t, not to worry. “What Is A Blog?” is a free e-book I wrote some months back. This e-book explains what a blog is, and why people blog. It also introduces methods used to make money online using blogs and recommends some books. Every beginner blogger should read this e-book.
It’s a zipped PDF file, about 332Kb. Here’s the link again, if you can’t find it.
Step 2: Choosing a Niche
Before you build a house, you’ll certainly create a blueprint of what the place is going to look like before actually starting to build the place, right? Before going on a journey, you’ll certainly take a map of the roads and of the destination with you too, right?
Read why it is important to pick out your blog’s niche, especially before you set up a blog. Please read it.
Step 3: A Place For Your Blog
In other words, a home for your blog. That is, you need what’s called a web host which will host your blog. Ideally, blogs need loads of bandwith, which can guard against traffic spikes, particularly the ‘Digg Effect’. Disk space is not much of a problem. Also, as a blogger, your host must have easy blog software installation, such as for WordPress. You’ll also need databases to house your blog’s posts and comments and such.
But on top of everything, your host needs to be reliable, providing maximum up-time. Let me introduce you to a few among-the-best web hosts known for super friendly support and fantastic, affordable service.
Step 4: What’s Next
Tips on what to do after you’ve read all the above and registered for web hosting and are ready to blog! Read now!
Note:: Hope you loved this guide. I’ll be adding more stuff to it as time passes. So, be sure to check back often! Subscribing to the RSS feed is the best way to stay updated!:D
